Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration to commemorate Mexico’s victory over the French Empire on May 5, 1862. Surprisingly, this holiday is more popularly celebrated in the U.S. than it is in Mexico. The date has become more of a celebration of Mexican-American culture. Cinco de Mayo celebrations, or fiestas, involve dancing, festive decorations, and food; lots and lots of delicious Mexican food.
